RBDallas's bus and walking tours offer a number of opportunities to witness significant sites from the 19th and 20th centuries. The goal of our tours is to empower participants to learn more about Dallas’ African American heritage.
We are excited to bring you our Ukunika Bus and Walking Tours. Six curated itineraries provide an in depth view of various Freedman's Towns and other sites of historical and cultural significance to Dallas' African American communities. Tour-goers are transported between locations in an air-conditioned tour bus. These expertly-led 4 hour tours cost $40, excluding fees, and include a commemorative tour booklet, RBDallas t-shirt, and snacks. This tour will include stops at the Lynching of Allen Brooks Equal Justice Initiative Historical Marker at Main and Akard Streets, the 1910 Lynching of Allen Brooks Texas Historical Marker at the Old Red Courthouse, and Martyrs Park, future site of the Shadow Lines Monument, Jane Elkins and 1860 Lynching Historical Markers plus additional sites. This tour will explore Freedman’s Cemetery, Booker T. Washington High School, Moorland Branch YMCA, and sites of Black-owned businesses in the State-Thomas neighborhood, plus additional sites. Purchase your tickets here.
Our 5 hour extended bus tours will include visits to Deep Ellum, Freedman’s Cemetery and Freedmantown, Tenth Street Historic District, Joppa, Bear Creek Community (Irving), and Freedman's Town sites. These typically run from 10am - 3:30pm with 30 minutes for lunch. Cost: $50 per person.
Our 2 hour mini bus tours highlight fewer sites, but are more comprehensive in nature. Cost: $30 per person.
